YANG Yiyun CHN (IN/SP)
Yang Yiyun is a Chinese table tennis player born in 2003 who stands out for her unconventional defensive style. She specializes in classic long-distance chopping and defense, but uses short pimples on her backhand instead of the traditional long pimples. With these short pips, Yang is able to deliver heavy backspin, tricky returns, and deceptive changes of pace from behind the table, making her a particularly unpredictable opponent. On her forehand she plays with a conventional inverted rubber, skillfully mixing defensive pushes, controlled blocks, and occasional attacking shots. Yang’s creative use of material and patient tactics characterize her as one of China’s most original defensive players today, a role model for modern defenders who value strategic versatility.
